Year 2
Accommodation
The Year 2 team are very lucky because we have four very spacious classrooms. Our building is nicknamed ‘The Bungalows’ because we are separate from the main school. Each register class has its own room which looks out onto the school field, this provides a light and airy setting for the children to work in. The fourth room has been equipped as an Art/independent room and is used every afternoon for that purpose. In the morning it provides an additional classroom for literacy. The classrooms are connected by a corridor which acts as the children’s cloakroom and provides access to the girls’ and boys’ toilets. All classes have direct access onto the school field.
Curriculum
Please see ‘Termly newsletter' below for specific information about what is being covered each term.
Literacy and numeracy take place every morning. Children work in mixed ability groups for reading and maths. Lessons are carefully planned so that learning is at a pace that the children can cope with and succeed. We like our children to have fun whilst they learn.
The children follow a timetable of lessons for the afternoon. These include an indoor (school hall) and outdoor (playground or field) P.E. lesson, I.C.T. (using the I.C.T. suite where pupils work individually at a computer), music, R.E., Science and P.S.H.C.E (Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education). Art and Design, Science, Design and Technology, History and Geography are currently being taught through ‘Topic’ work.
Homework
Reading – Reading to your child, hearing them read their Book Band book and RML book on a regular basis will support them in a life long skill.
Mathematics – Playing the ‘Maths Game’ each week, involving children with shopping to encourage knowledge of weight/measure/money and finding ways of supporting your child with their current maths target – more information of these at parent consultations.
General – There will be a homework challenge each term. It will be connected with the topic and an information letter will be sent out. If your child comes home and discusses what they are learning with you then please feel free to add to their learning in anyway you wish e.g. Internet search, your own knowledge, visit to the library. We welcome items related to our lessons so send them in.

- Name all items and check that names have not been washed out of clothing regularly
