Admissions
Welburn Hall is a generic special school/college for children aged 8 to 19 years with a wide range of special educational needs.
Pupils are admitted to the school in consultation with parents and on the recommendation of the Local Authority (North Yorkshire County Council). Parents have a statutory right to have their own preference on school placement fully considered before a school is named on a Statement of Special Educational Needs.
Welburn Hall staff are always available to discuss this with parents as are SEN Officers of the LA and your local Parent Partnership Co-ordinator. We can provide advice on contacting any of these.
Pupils usually have a Statement of Special Educational Needs. Non-statemented pupils are sometimes admitted on a temporary basis whilst assessment is being completed.
Pupils would usually start the school at the beginning of a new term. We usually try to offer each new pupil opportunities to spend some time in school prior to their full-time admission.
The school is open during the normal North Yorkshire term time dates for 190 days each year. Day and weekly boarding places are agreed as a part of each pupil’s provision.
Educational needs and geographic family location are fully considered in determining the type of place offered.
