Nursing
The nursing department in school is staffed 24 hours a day 365 days of the year. Our team consists of fully qualified nurses and health care assistants who bring a wide range of experience and expertise. The main role of the nursing team is to be proactive in maintaining the health and wellbeing of every child and young person in our care, so that they are able to enjoy the best possible quality of life.
We are available for telephone advice at all times, including when the children and young people are at home with their families.
The medical needs of some of the young people are such that they require extra support and we will ensure that this is available for trips and outings, as well as for in house activities.
We fully recognise that we are a part of a support team around each young person and so have developed good working relationships with all the local hospitals, many individual consultants, hospices, GPs and chemists, as well as dentists, dental hygienists, dieticians and optical services.
At times there could be difficult decisions to be made and changes to come to terms with. We will support the child/young person and their families at these times. If requested we are happy to be fully involved in explaining these things in an appropriate way, so that the children and young people can understand and be reassured. We are always here to assist with asking questions or just to provide reassurance and support.
