Beech Class – Year 3

WOW! Where did that summer go??!  Welcome back to another year in Beech Class.  It was a very exciting summer, with so much sport to be enjoyed. I hope that you are all well rested and eager to attack the new year.

This term, we are going to start with the Egyptians! This is my favourite topic as we get to enjoy all the thrills of learning about the Gods, Egypt, Jewellry and, of course, the mummification process.  More information will follow as to how you can help.

A few admin things:

PE will be on Wednesday afternoon, so have those PE kits ready

Swimming will start on the 27th September

What you can do to help:

Reading is extremely important to us at Glenfrome. Listerning to your child read will be of great value to us. 10 minutes a day would be great, but more would of course be better.

Also, learning the times tables will be super.

Attached you will find the new curriculum overview and the spellings.

Already, we have had a very exciting time. The first stage in the mummification process has been completed with great success. Thank you to Louis' mum, Martha's mum and Jasmine's mum for coming to help us. This made everything so much easier. A very special thank you has to go to Cathy from the local Tesco. They provided us with most of the sardines and salt absolutely free! If you see her, give her a wave!

Here are the pictures from the day. They do get a little gory!!

By popular demand, here are the instructions on how to make your very own mummified fish.

You will need:

A sardine (whole), a sharp knife, lots of salt, a tray

  1. First, make sure that your sardine is cleaned under the tap. Any scales can ruin the mummification effect.
  2. Now, get your sardine and lay him on his back, belly up.
  3. Next, place your knife just under the chin.
  4. Open up the sardine, taking care not to cut all the way through
  5. Once opened, scoop out all the guts and throw them in the bin.
  6. The heart is right behind the head. Use your thumb to scoop it out.
  7. When it is completely gutted, place it in a thin layer of salt, belly up.
  8. Cover the entire sardine in lots of salt, covering it completely.
  9. Cover the tray with cling film and leave to stand for 6-7 weeks.

Now you are ready to mummify your own fish. Keep looking on this site in order to get the next set of instructions to complete your mummy
