Events 2012/13
At Burley Oaks we often participate in whole school and wider community events to enhance our learning. Below are just some of the exciting events we have been involved in so far in 2012/2013
The Big Pedal
The 2013 Big Pedal virtual bike race is on! This is the UK's biggest cycle to school event and there are some great prizes to be won, from cycle storage to bike stunt displays.The more pupils, parents and staff who cycle or scoot, the faster our school will complete the race.
In 2012, the combined efforts of children all over the country led to a total distance in journeys to school on bike or scooter of 1,140,075 miles, which would normally have been made in 1,520,100 car journeys! As a result 59,021 gallons of fuel were saved, which would have cost £368,484. All our racers can also be happy knowing that 746 tonnes of CO2 was saved, enough to fill 560 Olympic sizes swimming pools!
