St Monica's is a very happy and successful school where children are confident and enthusiastic learners. There are two classes for each year group with a total of 420 pupils from Reception to Year 6. We are oversubscribed for places every year and have waiting lists for each year group.
Attainment at St Monica's has been consistently "outstanding" at Key Stage 2 for the last five years. Have a look at our English and Maths Sats results on the "About Us" pencil; but at St Monica's we do much more than focus on academic success. Our motto is "Strive to succeed in the presence of God." The children are taught that they can be successful in many different ways, which could be anything from being a good friend to being a fantastic sports person, musician, reader or artist. We work in partnership with St Monica's Parish to instil Gospel values in the children and to develop their faith. The parents of our children are very supportive of the school and this is valued as an essential ingredient for making our school as successful as it is.
Last financial year we were allocated the second lowest amount of money (compared to similar sized schools in the borough) and yet we achieved amongst the highest results! The Governors are proud that we provide such good value for money! We are allocated a very small amount of Pupil Premium (£4,392 last year) and this money is used to help support identified pupils' learning and provide disadvantaged pupils with curriculum enrichment opportunities.
We are fortunate to have a highly successful Friends Committee who raise funds in a variety of ways throughout the year to help provide resources that our school budget does not stretch to. Their focus this year is improving access to technology. We aim to refurbish our ICT suite and ensure that children can use mobile technical devices in their classrooms more readily.
Should you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us via the school office. There are two Open Afternoons in November for prospective Reception parents and an additional one in January. Telephone the school office nearer the time for exact dates and times and to book a place for the visit.
