Eden Cares

Eden has various groups offering opportunities in all phases of the school with a rich legacy of service. This page includes general information and will, from time to time, include appeals.

Interact

Interact is Eden College’s community service club that supports a different cause each year. Last year we raised money for the Guide Dog’s Association and this year we are supporting the Reach for a Dream Foundation. Our goal this year was to raise R15 000 and we have already raised more than that! (September 2011).

Interact was previously known as “CareCom”. CareCom was started by Mrs van Wyk and she is still in charge of the Interact committee. As CareCom, pupils at Eden supported various organisations and charities over the years. Supporting activities were varied and many, but included: raising money, making and supplying sandwiches to orphanages, weekly visits and entertaining children at children's homes, creating and producing an activity book for children, wrapping gifts at the Pavilion for donations to charities and a number of other drives of support.

In 2011, CareCom joined forces with the Rotary Club of Durban to become “Interact”. Rotary is an internationally known and recognised organisation and many schools that are part of Rotary work together to help support each other to galvanise support and raise funds for their specific cause. Our Interact Club has many fundraisers throughout the year such as market days, cake sales, waitressing and the extremely popular show: "Eden’s Got Talent"! The committee is made up of 7 members, namely: the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and 3 Directors.

Anyone can join Interact and we have meetings every Thursday straight after school - ALL are welcome!

Over R11 000 raised for Reach for a Dream from "Eden’s Got Talent" show (Below)

On the 1st of September 2011, the Interact Committee organised the Eden’s Got Talent Show, which was a huge success and Interact’s biggest fundraiser. Food and drinks were sold on the night and there was a raffle too. Over R500 worth of skincare products was won by Muhammad Desai. The talent show was spectacular and had nineteen acts ranging from playing the saxophone to comedy skits. The winner of the talent show was Siphe Maphumulo who won R1000 for his beatboxing. In second place was Arianna Carini for singing and playing the guitar, winning R500. In third place was Denelle Vandayar winning R300 for a lovely traditional Indian dance. Special thanks to Mr Marcellin for being a fantastic MC, to Mrs van Elden for finding our awesome judges and to Mrs van Wyk for organising this event. Congratulations to all the winners!
