Role Of The Governors
The governing body has legal responsibility for the school, as dictated by central government and the Local Education Authority (Swindon Borough Council). The governing body has three key roles:
- To provide a strategic view: agrees priorities, appropriate aims and objectives and standards the school needs to achieve.
- To monitor and review progress: this means to act as a critical friend, offer support, advice, act as a sounding board, help where needed, ask questions, challenge if appropriate, seek information and improve proposals
- To be accountable to the Local Education Authority, to Ofsted, to parents and the community: information is available in minutes of the governing body meetings, the school prospectus, the school website, school profile and the Ofsted inspection report.
The head, in co-operation with the senior management team, is responsible for the day to day smooth running of the school. The head ensures the professional management and leadership of the school, moves the school towards its targets and implements new policies. The head also needs to ensure that he gives governors appropriate information in order for the governing body to meet its statutory responsibilities.
