Welcome to Arundel's Class Page
Welcome to Year 4's Term 5!
The summer has finally arrived and with it, lots of fun!
Our focus in Literacy this term is on newspapers and recounts. We have already written some wonderful diary entries about Cholderton Farm and added lots of amusing anecdotes. We will be looking at writing in first and third person this term and making sure that our grammar is well good... we mean really good.
In Numeracy we are going to be learning more about decimals, fractions and some of us percentages! We will also be looking at money, money word problems, symmetry and completing symmetrical patterns.
In Science we are learning about moving and growing. We have found out how many bones an adult human has and we will be comparing this with animals. We will also be looking at muscles and carrying out and presenting investigations about growth.
Through RE and PSHE we are learning all about relationships and people that are important to us. We will also be looking at Judaism and what it is like to be part of the Jewish faith.
Arundel have indoor PE on a Monday or Wednesday and we will be doing dance and gymnastics. Arundel will have outdoor PE on a Friday afternoon. Please make sure children have a sweatshirt to wear. No hoodies please.
Each week, we will update our learning blog to keep you informed of our weekly on-goings!

Week 4
In RE, we have looked at the synagogue. This is where people of the Jewish faith go to worship. We planned a party for 50 people in Maths with a budget for £100 and had to get as close to £100 as possible. We found out about a crime and wrote the opening to a newspaper. We made our musical opening to Funnybones. It was tricky. We also made models of arms to show how muscles work! We were looking at Henry Moore and created our own pictures of people looking at light and shadow. We are looking forward to tomorrow off. Happy Star Wars Day for May 4th!
Week 3
We have written recounts about Cholderton Farm and we are editing and publishing them. In Maths we learnt how to solve word problems about money to help Mrs Shopper, who is terrible at maths. An abomination. We did some science experiments. They were messy but fun. Our favourites were the cola and chewy mints, and the 'magic milk'.
Week 2
We finally went to Cholderton Farm. It was amazing, epic and awesome! We built buggies, someone fell off... the video will be up soon. We went abseiling. It was very scary. We stayed up really late and Miss Williams had trouble waking the girls up in the morning. The goat ate Miss Williams' paperwork. Bad Goat! We also went rock climbing despite the terrible rain. We all returned home in one piece.
Week 1
We have been learning a lot about fractions. We have learnt about mixed numbers, improper fractions and how to find equivalent fractions. We have created a model of our school of the future and written the school rules for 100 years time. We were really lucky to have a go at fencing this week and enjoyed fighting! This time next week, we will be in Cholderton Farm.

Week 1
We finished our inquiry about the rainforest. The presentations were fantastic. We had role plays, posters and even a video! We also had the wonderful story of 'Quaiderella' written which kept us very entertained.
Week 2
We had our WOW Day. Miss Tabram was very scary as a Victorian teacher. We learnt that if children were naughty they could get 'six of the best' or even a Dunce's hat for being incompetent. We also learnt what Victorian boys and girls would learn. Girls got to cook and we made cookies and sandwiches. Boys got to dig and tend to the gardens as well as try some technical drawing. We also made peg dolls and boys got to decorate the cookies.
Week 3
This week on World Book Day we took a fairytale and added a funny character to see what would happen. We also dressed up! We then created our own books. We made different switches in Science to break and connect a circuit so the light would come on. In Maths we have been looking at perimeters and also creating a line graph. Some of us created a scatter graph with a best fit line. We then ate sweets too! Yum!
Week 4
We have been comparing Victorian schools, 1950s schools and schools now. We thought about how schools could change in the future. In science we were trying to see if the length of wire changed the brightness of the bulb. We composed relaxing and calm music to help us relax. It has also been red nose day. We have dressed in pyjamas and been telling jokes. Here are some of our favourites:
Dr Dr everyone is ignoring me.
NEXT PLEASE!
What did the traffic light say to the car?
Don't look, I'm changing!
Why isn't a stick insect a stick insect without the t?
Because is will be a sick insect.
What do you call a sheep with no legs?
A cloud.
Which sea creature is famous?
Star fish.
Dr Dr I think I've been bitten by a vampire.
Drink this water.
Will it make me feel better?
No, but I'll be able to see if your neck leaks.

The highlights of Arundel's weeks
Week 1
We had an excellent trip to the Living Rainforest and a lovely time in the playground. We saw Cinnamon the sloth, Mario and Luigi the birds, and learnt that a pitcher plant could digest a small monkey!
Week 2
This week we were very lucky to have some animal guests in our class. We had stick insects, millipedes and even a snake.
Week 3
The snow didn't stop us this week and we have still been really active. We have been using lots of apparatus in PE and have been thinking of interesting ways to travel, balance and counterbalance using our partners to help support us. We are also writing stories to enter in a competition.
Week 4
We have been continuing to write our 500 word stories this week. We have also been using our maths methods which we have learnt to solve some difficult problems and a tricky puzzle! We thought about what makes us happy and how we don't always show our true feelings. Finally, we found out what type of learners we are and tried using that style to learn. It was a lot of fun!
