Remembrance Day 2011
Year 5 led our Remembrance Day service on Friday 11th November. At 11.00am the whole school paused for a minute's silence as a mark of respect to those members of the armed forces who lost their lives serving our country.
The children created their own cenotaph at which they laid poppy wreathes. Some children talked about relatives who had lost their lives in war and laid candles in their memory.
The children produced their own artistic impression of Flander's Fields where the poppies once grew. They hung wishes on a 'peace' tree and sung songs of hope and peace, including John Lennon's Imagine.
The children read extracts from some of the Great War Poets including Laurence Binyon's, For the Fallen.
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
