Parenting Support

Schools should encourage parents to seek the support they need and provide access to parenting support. This should include:

• information sessions for parents of pupils joining reception in primary school and moving up to secondary school

• signposting to national and local sources of information

• advice and support

• access to parenting groups using structured, evidence-based parenting programmes

• family-learning sessions to allow children to learn with their parents where consultation has shown there is a demand

Totnes Learning Community has 3 Parent Support Advisors who offer help or advice about:

• attendance

• starting and moving between classes and schools

• homework

• school policies and practices

• managing problem relationships

• challenging behaviour

in fact anything that you will confront as your children journey through school settings.
