At Keepers Cottage we employ 18 staff members, the staff are of a mixed age range with a variety of skills and experience.

We work very much as a team and work together to ensure our standards are high in all areas of the nursery.

The management consists of a management job share and a deputy manager, at least one member of management is on the premises at all times.

Each age group is led by a room leader and joined by nursery practitioners.

One member of the management team is working towards a foundation degree in child care.

All management are qualified at a level 4 and all other staff are level 3.

Staff

The setting provides staff to be able to continuously develop professionally. Staff are given time and support to develop and gain higher levels of qualifications and experience to extend their knowledge, to be able to extend a child’s development.

For my team to be able to provide an effective practice it is essential for them to understand the theories that work alongside early year’s development and education.

The setting has regular team meetings to assess the environment and reflect on the present children.

We also have a very experienced cook who has worked for us for from when the nursery opened, the cook provides home cooked meals and adapts the menu to include all children’s dietary requirements.

Currently in our setting the key person plays an essential role in supporting the emotional well being of the children and families in their care. By using this system we can ensure our parent partnership relations is personal to each family. We believe parents are the children’s first and most long term educators.

There are many benefits to having a key person approach; the key person will ensure that the child feels cherished, special and individual and that they have some one to trust while their parents are away. The child will experience an affectionate relationship while attending our nursery. The key person provides the parents the opportunity to build one close relationship and partnership and discuss fears, stresses and pleasures. The key person will form a close relationship with the child and family and this will benefit the child because the key person will have a good understanding of how the child learns and develops.
