Starting nursery

Choosing a nursery

Choosing the right nursery environment for your child is difficult. We would advise that you look round a few before making your final decision.

An enquiry at Children's Corner will result in a brochure being sent out to you and an invitation to come and look round our setting. We operate a complete open door policy and we would never turn a parent away, however we would advise that you make an appointment to come and view the setting. Making an appointment will ensure that our nursery manager has time to show you round the setting in full, answer any of your questions and spend a little time gettiing to know you and your family.

Most of our settings are quite full, we would therefore advise that you book your child in as early as possible to ensure you get the sessions you need. A registration fee of £25 is required to hold a place and we will confirm your sessions 3 months before your start date.

Starting at Children's Corner

Following your initial enquiry and booking the nursery manager will contact you 3 - 4 weeks before your start date to arrange some preliminary visits. We normally offer 3 visits, however this is not set in stone, some parents feel 1 or 2 is sufficient whilst other may require an extra session to help settle their child.

The initial visit will be an hour long and you will be asked to stay with your child. During this visit a member of staff will sit with you and familiarise you with the room and ask you to fill in a child entry record. The child entry record gives us information about your child, their likes and dislikes, eating and sleeping patterns.

The second visit we would ask that you leave your child for a short period of time, this will allow the staff to familiarise themselves with your child and their routines and also give you and your child an opportunity to get used to the separation.

The third and any subsequent visits will be a few hours long, we normally try to book these over periods such as dinner and sleep time to help get your child used to nursery life.

What do I need to bring?

We ask that each child is provided with a pair of slippers or indoor shoes, this helps stop the spread of infection by bringing dirty feet inside. A small bag containing a change of clothes and any comforters your child needs throughout the day. During the cooler months we would aks that you send your child with appropriate outdoor clothing such as a warm coat or an all-in-one suit for smaller children. During the warmer months we ask that you provide a sun hat and sun cream.

You do not need to provide any food, cups or nappies. We prodive SMA milk and Avent bottles, if you child requires something different we would ask that you provide this in the original container which is clearly labelled.
