Reception/Year1: What we've been up to
We love school!
Look at us having fun at school. Look and see what we can do.
A Spring term scrapbook showing the superstars in our classes busy exploring
indoors and outdoors.
Our Visitors
The children enjoyed looking after 10 chickens' eggs. They watched them hatch in the incubator and observed changes as they grew in the brooder box. We found out lots of interesting facts about chicks and hens.
Did you know that a chick's eyelids move upwards to close?
Did you know that you can feed chicks Weetabix and other cereals?
Did you know that a chick inside the egg eats the yolk before it hatches?
Dance Festival
Reception perform their fantastic Teddy bears' Picnic dance to the whole school.
They terrified some of us with their fearsome roar!
Pop!
We have read the Floppy Phonics book, Pop!
We used our perfect pointing finger and sounded out the green words. We stopped at the red words and our teachers helped us. We talked lots about the story and lots about popcorn.
How do you eat yours?
It made us really hungry - so we followed the instructions to make popcorn in the microwave, in the pan and in a popcorn maker. We enjoyed it with salt, sugar and syrup and cinnamon. MMMMMmmmm!
Multi-cultural week
Everybody in school has had an exciting week exploring India. In Reception and Year 1, we have really enjoyed finding out about which animals live in India through a book called 'Tiger's Story'. We followed a young tiger on his journey as he grew up and found territory of his own. We got very messy during our art day, when we created some landscape and lots of these different animals.
In PE, we listened to some Indian music and tried out some traditional dance moves. The children were fantastic at this - ask them to show you some of their moves!
We also found out about a very special festival in India, Diwali, the Festival of Light. We have made our very own decorations, including diva pots, mendhi hand prints and rangoli patterns. We have used masks to re-tell the story - this is especially fun on the outdoor stage. To add to the excitement, we cooked our own vegetable curry and coconut bharfi. At the end of the week, we had a beautiful celebration of our own. We listened to some Indian music and each child gave another child a handmade sweet and a handprint decorated with mendhi patterns - we called them our hands of friendship.
Soup, Glorious Soup
Stir, stir, stir the soup,
Round and round the pot.
Bubble, bubble, simmer, simmer,
Drink it while it's hot.
Exploring
We have been exploring our lovely school, indoors and outdoors. We have been learning school and class rules and finding out where everything is kept. We have made lots of new friends and have been getting to know all the members of staff. School is lots of fun!
Our First School Trip!
We have had a fantastic time on our first ever school trip. All of our teachers and volunteers were very proud of us. We went to the Metrocentre to visit Build-a-Bear Workshop to make our very own class bears. Each class had to choose the fur, stuff them with love and dress them up. Snowy and Rosie have been made very welcome in our classrooms. We also visited WHSmiths, where the staff were very kind too. They read us some lovely stories and gave use some vouchers so that we could choose some new books for our classrooms. We really enjoyed choosing the books together. We have had a lot of fun back in school with our new class members and have already enjoyed many of the new stories.
COMING SOON - a snapshot to se all the fun!
