Jobs by George

Jobs by George was created in 1993 by staff members at George Washington High School after the summer of violence to create summer job opportunities for DPS high school students in a supervised environment.  The founders partnered with local area businesses to create opportunities for youth to learn discipline work habits.  This is a rigorous program and expectations for students are high.  Coach Steve Finesilver shares that students are expected to report to work at 7:00 am each morning during the summer, four days a week.  Yet that doesn't seem to turn students off. The program created over 2,000 jobs in the community and has grown to involve hundreds of youth.  In addition to paid work, students also receive school credit for completing the program each summer and students in the program three years or more are automatically rewarded with a $1,000 scholarship.  To learn more about Jobs by George contact Steve Finesilver at steve_finsilver@dpsk12.org.

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is the largest high school business student organization in the country.  The first high school chapter started in 1942 and GWHS was granted a charter in 1969.  Students in FBLA participate in competition, community service activities, social events and business exploration.  We work hard and also have fun.  With over 30 different competitive events, you are sure to find one where you will excel!  If you’re interested in having fun, traveling, developing your skills, and meeting new people this is the club for you.  Plus, it looks great on your resume!

Membership dues must be paid by the beginning of October to join.  We meet every other Tuesday at lunch in room 322.
