Carissa Marsh Tuesdays during lunch in room 333

Destination Imagination is a competition based on creativity to solve one of six different problems called challenges.  The challenge must be completed in eight minutes or less and must include two side-trips that relate to the challenge and that show off a talent or skill of the participants.

The challenges’ are made up so that students can use their imagination, knowledge and creativity.  For example, one challenge for this year is called:  Verses! Foiled Again.  In this challenge the team will design and build a structure made only from aluminum foil, wood and glue.  The structure must weigh less than twenty-five grams and have dimensions of between 7.5 in and 9 in. The goal here is to see how much weight it will hold during the competition while the contestants present a story about a character that is foiled and integrate a verse into their presentation and complete the two side trips.

The competition is offered for Kindergarten through twelfth grade.  There are three levels of competitions: district, state and global. The goal of each team is to compete well enough to attend the global competition in Knoxville , TN at the end of the school year.

Leslie Whitty Isabel Hoyt and Erica Czajka with activities coordinator Lauren Josephs  Tuesdays during lunch in Room 123 The purpose of Invisible Children is to inspire kids at George to  help end the longest running war in Africa . This club was created through the actual  Invisible Children Organization, which started with the Rough Cut documentary in 2003, filming night commuting  and Joseph Kony's Rebel Army. Last year we raised over $2,000 through selling bracelets, and bringing the Bonk Game Show to George. We also had a screening and ex-child soldier come to help raise awareness and support. This year we are working to help rebuild Uganda , starting with paying for two teenagers high school education. We plan to keep raising money and awarness. We believe that the problems of central Africa need to be tackled comprehensively, from peace to education. Solving them is not easy task, and it will take all of us doing all that we can to ensure it.
