Rangeworthy draw in the Final of the Small Schools Football Tournament!
On Wednesday 19th May our footballers travelled to Tortworth to take part in the the prestigious small schools' Football Tournament.
Horton vs Rangeworthy:
The first match was against Horton, a confident strong side who took advantage of our slow start and scored within the first minutes of the game. We fought back, Will and Tom picking up the ball in the midfield, stringing passes together which eventually led to Toby hammering the ball in the back of the net. Final score 1-1.
Oldbury on Severn vs Rangeworthy:
Rangeworthy dominated the game with Jordan running rings around Oldbury's midfield, a fantastic pass led to Will scoring and minutes later Tom dribbled the ball down the right wing beating the keeper. Rangeworthy won with a 2-0 victory!
Hawkesbury vs Rangeworthy:
Hawkesbury, confident that they could beat a team with girls in, created some good chances. Morgan and Ellie worked well in defence, clearing the ball from the area. Tom picked up the ball in midfield, picking off all opposition and slammed it into the back of the net. Hawkesbury responded. Will, assisted our defence and Josh made a crucial save. With only seconds to go, Toby confidently scored our second goal. Final score 2-0.
Iron Acton vs Rangeworthy
Having played several matches back to back, the team was hot and tired. Leanne and Ellie replaced Poppy and Morgan in defence as we faced Iron Acton. Despite some good chances we didn't manage to score. Josh worked hard in goal and Ellie managed to clear a ball after a nail biting corner. A good match and a fair score 0-0!
Tortworth vs Rangeworthy:
Our last match was against Tortworth. With a strong home crowd and a very serious coach, Tortworth assumed they would win. The ball was passed around accurately by both teams. Tortworth hit the post and Rangeworthy missed an open goal. A collision between Tom and Jordan saw Jordan hobble off. Ellie replaced him, the team wobbled. Poppy cleared a crucial shot and there was relief as the whistle was blown 0-0. Then the wait..........yes, we had made it into the final!
FINAL - Tortworth vs Rangeworthy:
So, the final - a repeat match vs Tortworth. A very hard, tense match was played. Both teams could sense victory. Poppy and Morgan battled in defence, Will, Jordan and Tom continued to run from end to end creating endless chances for Toby, but neither team could score. At the final whistle a groan was heard - PENALTIES! We couldn't watch. Unfortunately it wasn't our day - a great pity. It was a shame a superb afternoon ended this way.
Well done to everyone who played. I am so proud of you all. You worked together as a team, played fair and worked hard - you are WINNERS!
