Art
Art is seen as a crucial part of the curriculum with school as it allows children to explore their surroundings and express their thoughts and feelings in a creative and imaginative way. Art is taught as part of a topic based curriculum and is often used to compliment other subjects such as Literacy, ICT and History. For example, Tudor portraits have been produced as part of the History topic Henry VIII and Tudors.
Other topics taught include ‘Mother Nature, Designer,’ which is used as a basis for collage work using raw materials collected, and ‘What A Performance,’ which uses this film and theatre as a basis and starting point for the work. Sketchbooks are kept throughout the books to record children ideas and observations, as we believe this is a crucial process in developing the skills required to produce a high quality piece of work. Children are encouraged to evaluate their own and others’ work in order to see where they can improve further. Large, colourful displays containing various media and techniques are apparent throughout the whole school and are updated regularly.
