The Curriculum and Learning

The curriculum is very carefully planned by all staff.

It is taught through topics that last for around 6 weeks. We believe that children learn in many different ways and so plan topics that start with an exciting visit, visitor or activity. The children are then eager and enthusiastic to get involved.

Staff also ask children what they would like to find out about, and they ensure that ideas suggested are included.

Chinese New Year

Children map out what they know already about a topic, before generating questions about the things they want to learn about next. We develop 'Wonder walls' to focus on asking questions and the process of learning. As the topics progress, more learning is added to tell the story of learning from the beginning to the end of a topic. The best learners ask the best questions. The slideshow below shows some of our wonder walls. Links between subjects are made, so if history is all about the Great Fire of London, the children will develop their learning through drama, writing, art, ICT, design-technology and geography too. Activities are designed to be stimulating and engaging so that all children can take part. Speaking and listening are valued as children discuss, act out and explore their understanding. We know that all children learn in different ways, so ensure that learning is varied and active.
