December 2009 - Newsletter 7

Dear Parents and Carers,

Infant Christmas Production

Infant Christmas Production – Are We Nearly There Yet? (Monday 7th December at 2pm and Tuesday 8th December at 6pm). We are now sold out for the Tuesday evening performance but there are some tickets left for the Monday afternoon performance. Please ask at the office or phone school on Monday morning.

Children will go home as usual after the Monday afternoon performances (they hopefully won’t be, but please bear with us if they are a few minutes late out!).

Children need to arrive at school at 5:40pm on Tuesday – Reception and Year 1 children should come to school in their costume (which they will take home on Monday) and Year 2 children will get changed at school (Year 2 costumes will be kept at  school).  If your child is in the infants and goes to Grassroots Coaching on a Tuesday after school and you would still like them to go, then you can collect them at earlier at 4:45pm so that you have time to get them something to eat and get changed. The infant performance lasts for approximately 45 minutes.

Junior Carol Concert

The Junior Carol Concert at Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church is on Thursday 10th December at 7pm. Please remember to return your slip to let us know how many seats you would like (maximum of 4 per family). Children will need to arrive at church at 6:45pm.  There will be a collection after the carol concert.

PTA Christmas Fair

Thank you very much for all your support for our Christmas Fair. It was a very enjoyable afternoon and a very successful fair raising a fantastic £2163.23. A really big thank you to the PTA for their great organisation and tremendous hard work, and to all the parents, staff and volunteers who helped before, during and after the fair. Your help is much appreciated and really does make a big difference.

Christmas Parties

The children have their school Christmas parties during the afternoon of the last week of term:

Monday 14th December                   Year 1 & 2 Christmas Party

Tuesday 15th December                    Reception Class Christmas Party

Wednesday 16th December                        Year 3 & 4 Christmas Party

Thursday 17th December                   Year 5 & 6 Christmas Party

Children can bring in a change of clothes for their party in a bag on the day. Please could you send in £1 towards party food and drinks for your child’s party. Please could your children give this to their teacher in a marked envelope (child’s name, class and party food) by Friday 11th December. Thank you.

Christmas Post Box

The school Christmas Post Box will be available for Christmas cards from Monday – please make sure that the envelope has a full name and class on it. Sending Christmas cards is very worthwhile writing practice, particularly for the younger children.

The final after school club dates for this term are as follows:

Grassroots Coaching – Tuesday 15th December

Netball – Tuesday 8th December

Boys’ Football – Wednesday 9th December

Girls’ Football – Wednesday 9th December

Mini-Tennis – Friday 11th December

There will be a new club timetable coming home after Christmas.

School Improvement Plan and Questionnaire Feedback

I have attached a parents’ summary of the school improvement plan (2009 – 2010) and summary of our last parents’ questionnaire (from Summer Term 09). Please do take the time to look through. We aim for continual improvement as a school and use feedback from parents, pupils, staff, governors and the community to inform our forward planning as well as looking at local and national priorities. The school improvement plan shows you some of the improvements we have built in for the coming year and beyond.

Safeguarding

As a school we take the safety of your children very seriously and are committed to the safeguarding of all of our children. We strive to:

  • Create and maintain a safe learning environment for our children
  • Identify where there are child welfare concerns and take action to address them, in partnership with other organisations where appropriate.
  • Develop our children’s understanding of how to keep themselves safe.

All school staff receive training in safeguarding. We let the children know that there is always someone they can talk to in school if they need to (their teacher, teaching assistant, mid-day assistants, myself).

INSET Day

We finish for Christmas after school on Friday 18th December. The children are due back in school on Tuesday 5th January as we have an INSET day on the Monday.

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything at all you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,

James Twigg
