The School Jotter platform is designed to support modern accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.2 AA. It provides the tools and functionality needed to create accessible content and user experiences.
However, achieving and maintaining compliance with these standards depends on how the platform is used. Schools are responsible for ensuring their content and configuration align with WCAG best practice.
Browser & Device Compatibility
The platform is optimised for the last two major versions of mainstream browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari). While the platform may function on older browsers, the performance of accessibility tools and visual themes cannot be guaranteed on legacy software.
Built-in Accessibility Tools (Web)
The website platform includes an Accessibility Toolbar which schools can optionally enable on their website, if they do so it allows for tools such as:
- Text Adjustment: Increasing or decreasing text size, letter spacing, and line height.
- Visual Aids: Enabling high contrast, inverted colours, greyscale, or a “Reading Guide” line.
- Simplified View: Hiding graphics, underlining links, or disabling animations.
- Assistive Tools: Utilising a “Big Cursor” or built-in text-to-speech functionality.
The availability and behaviour of these features may vary depending on the browser and device used to access the website.
Native App Accessibility
Our native mobile applications utilise the built-in accessibility features provided by Apple (iOS) and Google (Android), such as screen readers and system-wide font scaling.
Content Limitations & Disproportionate Burden
The school is responsible for the accessibility of the content they manage (Alt Text, Heading structures, and document accessibility). While we strive for full compliance, fixing legacy content or third-party embeds may constitute a disproportionate burden or a fundamental alteration to the nature of the service.
Accessibility Rights
We are committed to ensuring our platform remains accessible. If you encounter any barriers while using the school website or mobile application:
- Feedback: Contact the school directly in the first instance. If the issue is related to the underlying School Jotter platform, the school will escalate the matter to our technical team to investigate a solution.
- Enforcement: The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) enforces the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018. If you are not happy with the response, you can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).
